Workshops
What’s the format of a workshop?
The workshop typically consists of interactive sessions led by experienced instructors. Students engage in hands-on learning activities, group discussions, and practical exercises to develop their skills and knowledge. At the beginning of the workshop, we will go through the projects that the workshop will be working on. These projects are typically real-life projects from community members. The instructor will demonstrate how to perform certain tasks needed for the projects, and then the students can freely develop and create their solutions. Each student will have their own server to maximize their experience without having to share servers with others. During the session, students may encounter technical issues; our instructors and teaching assistants will assist in resolving these issues to ensure smooth progress. Each student must present and demonstrate their work to the whole group.
What happens after the Build a WordPress workshop?
Each type of workshop might have some variations. For example, in the WordPress workshop, each student will design and develop their own versions of solutions to the projects during the workshop. Multiple students will develop multiple solutions for one project. The community member will select one solution from the multiple solutions, which will serve as the basis for the final solution. Students can collaborate with the community members to refine the selected solution. Finally, students will have the opportunity to practice their presentation skills by conducting a skill transfer session for the community member, enabling the business to become self-sufficient.
Is the workshop the same each time?
The workshops vary each time, even if we may be using the same technologies. Each workshop is tailored based on the specific projects we will be working on. These projects come from community members, each with unique requirements. At times, a project may involve creating a website, while at other times, it could involve setting up an e-commerce platform or creating pins. Our workshops adapt to the needs of each project, ensuring that we teach what is necessary for its completion. This flexibility also means that students can benefit from attending multiple sessions if they wish to advance in different aspects of the technologies.
Should Students attend workshops featuring the same technology multiple times?
Certainly. Since the workshop is altered based on the projects, it’s not surprising that we will be teaching other aspects of the same technologies. Additionally, attending multiple sessions allows students to pick up any new features and also get help from the instructors to debug any issues. Also, the workshop’s main focus is for the students to directly engage in project work right away. So if they already know the basics, they can jump ahead and start the project work.

Our workshops focus on two development aspects for high school students: Technical Skills and Leadership Skills. We believe that learning technology alone is not enough to provide a well-rounded experience for middle school and high school students. Soft skills must also be part of the learning process. Our workshops offer unique experiences for students preparing to apply for universities with both technical and leadership experiences. We aim to combine learning with real-world work experiences, allowing students to engage in leadership roles, technical implementation and project management activities. Participants will enhance their technical skills, presentation skills, learn office etiquette, grasp the intricacies of gathering requirements, understand project management principles, effective communication, team collaboration, and project execution.
