10X Hub is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to educate middle and high school students in technology through hands-on learning, providing them with real-world experience to strengthen their profiles and resumes while creating meaningful contributions to our community.
The Origin
From Jane Fung, Founder of 10X Hub
I always want to teach my kids something fun and useful and if it can help others all the better.
I had the opportunities talking to many small business owners. Since I have been immersed in the technology world for two decades, many technologies that were as simple as breathing to me are actually very difficult for many business owners.
I remember one instance vividly that a group spent thousands of dollars for a website that was so simple looking. As I looked at it, I thought to myself, “I could probably teach my teenage children to do this website, the business would get a nice website and my children would learn a new technology, gain unique real-world working experience that they can put on their profile for university. My children can also gain the experience to help and teach others technologies. I really saw no disadvantage with this, everyone benefits.” That was the spark that ignited the idea for 10X Hub.
Just imagine the multiplier impact we could create by empowering our teens with business problem-solving technology skills while simultaneously helping local communities at the same time. This will generate a lasting 10X effect.
Meet the Team
JANE FUNG, P. ENG – Founder and Executive Director
As the Founder and Executive Director of 10X Hub, Jane pioneers a transformative approach to empower small businesses through technology, leveraging the ingenuity of high school students. With a vision for inclusive innovation, Jane brings a wealth of experience and dedication to fostering growth and collaboration within the community.
Prior to establishing 10X Hub, Jane has championed technology and industry advancements for over two decades working in senior technical roles in IBM. With a background in Engineering, Jane has honed a diverse skill set including AI technologies and numerous Enterprise solutions. Jane has earned 5 patents and also published two books.
Driven by a passion for education and innovation, Jane envisions 10X Hub as a catalyst for meaningful change, bridging the gap between small businesses and emerging technologies. By harnessing the potential of high school students, Jane believes in creating opportunities for hands-on learning and real-world application. With this arrangement, Jane believes that this will create a 10X impact for both students and businesses.
Jane is a designated Professional Engineer (P. Eng) who received a bachelor in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. Jane is also a mother of two children.
CHRISTINE LAW – Program Director – Learning & Operations
Christine is a founding member of 10X Hub. With extensive experience in the Information Technology field, Christine proudly embraces her role as a woman in technology, she finds immense joy in sharing her knowledge through writing and teaching. Beyond her professional endeavors, Christine has taken an active role in tutoring high school students in Mathematics and volunteering as an Activity Leader in various Science & Technology Camps and Engineering Camps.
Observing the evolving landscape of education, Christine recognizes the increasing importance of computer skills in modern learning environments. With a noticeable shift towards digital submissions and online platforms, she believes that proficiency in technology is becoming indispensable for future success, regardless of one’s career path.
At 10X Hub, Christine spearheads a mission to equip youth with the essential skills needed to establish their online presence. While many perceive technology as intimidating, Christine emphasizes the accessibility of no-code solutions, making it easier than ever for individuals to build their online footprint.
Through her leadership at 10X Hub, Christine is committed to empowering the next generation, ensuring they are prepared to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Christine had a Computer Science degree from University of Waterloo. Christine is a dedicated mother of two lovely children.
SHARMIN OOMATIA – Expert Instructor
Sharmin Oomatia is an Instructor at 10X Hub with a robust background in UX design and web development. Bringing a wealth of experience, Sharmin has been a full-time WordPress and Shopify Developer for years, offering expert web development services to numerous clients. Her journey includes a significant two-year tenure at a web development startup and also a Web and Mobile instructor for a technical academy.
Beyond work, Sharmin finds joy in translating ideas into captivating designs during her leisure time. Notably, she has achieved the feat of seamlessly transforming designs into fully functional websites, solidifying her reputation as an adept developer.
Sharmin’s calm and patient personality aligns seamlessly with her instructional role. Guided by the principle that “Smart work will never replace hard work, it only supplements it,” she is set to inspire and empower students. As an integral part of the 10X Hub team, Sharmin looks forward to contributing to the mission of fostering the next generation’s digital literacy and success in an ever-evolving technological landscape. PRADEEP KUMAR – Expert Instructor
Pradeep Kumar, a proficient and seasoned web designer and developer, brings over 8 years of expertise to the digital realm. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology in 2014. Despite his academic roots in biotechnology, Pradeep’s fascination with the digital landscape led him to pivot towards web design and development.
With an innate flair for creativity and analytical thinking, Pradeep embarked on a career journey that has seen him thrive in the ever-evolving field of web development. Pradeep’s repertoire includes leveraging HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and WordPress to build dynamic online platforms. Pradeep’s dedication to excellence, coupled with his unwavering commitment to staying abreast of emerging technologies, positions him as a formidable force in the ever-expanding realm of web design and development. Pradeep joining as an instructor for 10X Hub will bring his wealth of experience and expertise in web design and development to aspiring students. His diverse skill set and hands-on experience not only enrich the learning experience but also provide students with invaluable insights into the latest industry trends and best practices, empowering them to excel in the dynamic field of web development.
JEFFREY LU – AI Instructor
Jeffrey Lu studies Computer Science in McMaster University. Scheduled to graduate in 2026, his academic journey is marked by an exceptional GPA and numerous accolades, including the prestigious Engineering Award of Excellence. His coursework covers a vast array of topics from programming fundamentals to advanced data structures and software development, showcasing his versatility and commitment to mastering the field.
Beyond the classroom, Jeffrey has contributed significantly to projects that span the development of AI applications, web development, and machine learning, demonstrating a keen interest in harnessing technology to solve real-world problems.
As a mentor, Jeffrey has empowered students in STEM, ensuring their success and fostering a love for technology. His technical prowess is matched by his passion for sharing knowledge and driving positive change, making him a remarkable member of the tech community and a valuable part to 10X Hub’s mission.
